There are also many, many important points about copywriting for direct mail letters that designers should be aware of. Short sentences, short words, crisp and clear language, a clear call to action (very important) and copy that shows the benefits to the consumer, not tells them about the company, are all very important. If you’re freelancing, you may often find yourself asked to proofread or edit copy, and raising concerns to the client before the piece is launched will benefit them far more than having the project fail in the real world.
To make the piece a bit more interesting, and if you can squeeze a few more dollars out of the budget, try going beyond 8.5″x11″. Maybe smaller is better — 7″x10″? Or push larger — go legal size and spread things out a bit more.
There are two unions involved in the creation of Voice-Overs in the U.S. market. They are AFTRA (American Federation of Radio and television Artists) and SAG (Screen Actors Guild).
Advertising is a large industry encompassing many areas. advertising agencies, marketing consulting firms, internet media companies, and the advertising departments of large companies are a few places where you might find suitable employment. Your first thought should be where would you fit in best. Do you have special skills that would be useful in one type of company but not another? Visit companies that you are interested in to learn more about the environment. Ask people you know in the industry where they see you flourishing. Choosing the right type of company is the foundation of your search.
So, how does search-engine optimization begin? Well, with thorough research. That’s key. Keywords and keyphrases, to be exact. You have to be a bit of an experimental slooth to determine the optimal words to use on a website. Google and other sites offer keyword tools to help you learn which words people are actually searching for. You shouldn’t use the interesting, and possibly quirky, words you might coin. You want to use the terms and phrases people are actually searching for. Then, code those words into your website’s pages so search engines can find them. I’m simplifying the process, of course, because there’s a lot of strategy that goes into SEO, particularly in choosing keywords.
One of the dangers of going global and earning in dollars but thinking in rupees is in the expenditure incurred on publicity material. In the early days our marketing office in the US would propose buying some ball pens for distribution at a trade show. They told us that it would ‘just’ cost a dollar a piece. Sitting in Hyderabad we would convert it in to rupees and exclaim, “What, Rs 40 for an ordinary ball pen! Forget it, we will send it from India where it costs only Rs 3”. Unfortunately, our ball pens were no match to the Chinese ones available there in a nice packing and qualitatively superior to ours. It was the same thing with T-shirts, stickers, leaflets and exhibition panels. Soon, better sense prevailed and we bought material in the local markets overseas.
Lets go South of the Border and head to Mexico with Grupo TMM SA (NYSE: TMM) , they are a Mexico based cargo and transport company. Now before you jump to conclusions let me map this scenario out to you. Their main business is transporting for clients throughout Mexico, whether it is trucking, railcar or container. Now the stock has a 52-week high of .70 and a 52-week low of .70 with an EPS of .67 and a P/E of almost 3. The industry average is a P/E of 11. Now the interest in little Grupo TMM is not high but institutions hold over 69% of the float and insiders and 5% holders hold over 45% of the outstanding stock.
Break It. If the document goes front and back, break the copy in the middle of a sentence. This helps iterate that there’s more to read, and makes them more inclined to keep reading.
